Started as Scambi Economici SA with operations across Goa. Baron Ludovic Toeplitz acquires the Orasso Dongor Mining Concession in North Goa and starts Scambi Economici S.A. Goa.
1955
The company renamed Sesa Goa Limitada is bought over jointly by Gewerkeshaft Exploration e Bergbau and by Ferromin S.p.A. of Italy.
1957
Mingoa Sociedade Miniera Goesa S.a.r.l. incorporated in Goa, with Fiat of Torino as the principal shareholder.
1963
Finsider S.p.A. acquires the West German interest in Sesa Goa Limitada and all shares of Mingoa Sociedade Miniera Goesa S.a.r.l.
1965
Sesa Goa Limitada and Mingoa Sociedade Miniera Goesa S.a.r.l. are incorporated as private limited companies under the Indian Companies Act 1956.
1979
Sesa Goa Private Limited formed with the amalgamation of Sesa Goa Limitada and Mingoa Sociedade Miniera Goesa S.a.r.l.
1981
Sesa Goa Limited goes public; 60% shares held by 42,000 Indian shareholders and 40% held by Finsider International (now Ilva International).
1984
Sesa Goa starts a barge construction unit at Sirsaim (Shipbuilding Division).
1988
Sesa Seat Information Systems Limited is started.
1992
First phase of 150,000 tpa Pig Iron Plant commissioned.
1993
Ilva International raises equity in Sesa Goa Limited to 51%. Sesa Industries Limited and Sesa Kembla Coke Company Limited are launched.
1994
Acquired Narrain Mines in Chitradurga, Karnataka. Second blast furnace commissioned.
1995
Sesa Shipping launched with acquisition of transhipper MV Orissa. 84 coke ovens commissioned. NCM Sesa Technical School established. Sesa Goa Limited receives ISO 9002 certification.
1996
First ever mining company to get the ISO 14001 Tag. Sesa Shipping merged with Sesa Goa Limited. Mitsui & Co. Limited of Japan buys Finsider International with its 51% equity in Sesa Goa Limited.
1997
Sesa Kembla becomes 100% subsidiary of Sesa Goa. Karnataka mining developments commence.
1998
Sesa Community Development Foundation established (Technical School and Sesa Football Academy).
1999
Mining operations commence at Barbil in Orissa. Sesa Goa Limited acquires 100% shares of A Narrain Mines Limited.
2000
Sesa Kembla Coke Company Limited completes development of indigenous environment friendly technology for metallurgical coke and power generation.
2001
Commissions new process plant for mining operations at Orissa.
2002
First business of its kind to be certified with OHSAS 18001. A Narrain Mines Limited merged with Sesa Goa Limited.
2003
Shipbuilding Division launches its 60th vessel, MV Toni. Sesa Industries Limited and Met Coke Division awarded ISO 14001.
2004
Sesa Group enters its (50th) Golden Jubilee year. Sesa Kembla Coke Company Limited amalgamated with Sesa Goa Limited.
2006
Forbes Asia ranks Sesa Goa Limited as one of Asia’s 200 Best Under a Billion companies.
2007
Acquired by Vedanta from Mitsui & Co. Vedanta Resources plc acquires 51% controlling stake in Sesa Goa Limited.
2008
Selected as Top Indian Company in the Mining Sector for Dun & Bradstreet American Express Corporate Awards 2007.
2009
Acquires all outstanding common shares of V S Dempo & Co. Private Limited.
2010
Wins Best Performer Award (Financial Express – EVI) in Metals & Mining category.
2011
Acquisition of WCL Assets. Acquired 51% stake in Western Cluster Limited, Liberia. Acquired 18.5% stake in Cairn India Limited. Sesa Industries Limited amalgamated with Sesa Goa Limited.
2013
Composite Scheme of Amalgamation effective August 17, 2013. Name changed to Sesa Sterlite Limited effective September 18, 2013.
2015
Amalgamation of Goa Energy Limited and Sterlite Infra Limited. Name of the Company changed to Vedanta Limited effective April 21, 2015.
2019
Acquired Global Coke (now known as Sesa Coke Vazare). Plant capacity of 108 KTs.
2020
Commencement of mining operations at Bomi, Liberia.
2021
