Vedanta Iron Ore Odisha Marks World Diabetes Day with Community Awareness & Health Camps

To commemorate World Diabetes Day 2025, themed “Diabetes and Well-being”, Vedanta Iron Ore Odisha (IOO) organized a series of diabetes awareness and health check-up camps across nearby villages to promote early detection, prevention, and management of diabetes. The initiative aimed to highlight the importance of maintaining physical and emotional well-being as part of diabetes care and to empower communities with the knowledge to lead healthier lives.
Free consultations and diabetes screening were provided to residents, with special sessions planned in Rengalbeda, Guali, Nadidihi, Nua Gaon, and Kendudihi villages. The camps were led by Dr. Mohan Kumar, Vedanta’s Mobile Health Unit (MHU) doctor, who conducted detailed awareness sessions and glucose level checks to help community members understand their health status and take proactive steps toward diabetes management.
Reflecting on the initiative, Mr. Biswanath Sahoo, COO – Vedanta Iron Ore Odisha, said: “At Vedanta Iron Ore Odisha, we are deeply committed to improving the quality of life in the communities around us. Diabetes is a growing concern, especially in rural areas where awareness and early diagnosis remain limited. Through our specialized health camps and consistent outreach via the Mobile Health Unit, we aim to build preventive healthcare awareness and ensure that every individual can access timely medical support.”
Expressing gratitude for the initiative, Mr. Manual Barla, Resident of Nadidihi village shared: “I had been feeling unwell for a while but didn’t realize it could be related to diabetes. The camp helped me get tested and consult a doctor right in my village. The Mobile Health Unit comes to our area regularly, which makes it easy for us to seek medical advice without traveling far. For people like us who live in remote villages, this service truly brings healthcare to our doorstep. I’m thankful to Vedanta for organizing these camps and guiding us on how to take care of our health.”
Vedanta IOO’s Mobile Health Unit (MHU) provides basic medical care to community members in and around Barbil and has been instrumental in addressing the healthcare needs of remote areas such as Nadidihi and Rengalbeda. Over the past year, the MHU has recorded a cumulative footfall of over 40,000 beneficiaries. Recently, Vedanta also organized a special eye check-up and spectacle distribution drive, benefitting more than 800 community members.
In addition, Vedanta IOO continues to prioritize women’s health through specialized awareness sessions on cervical cancer, maternity care, menstrual hygiene, lifestyle management, and gynaecological disorders. These initiatives empower women with vital health information, enabling them to make informed decisions for their long-term well-being.
Through such ongoing efforts, Vedanta Iron Ore Odisha remains steadfast in its mission to promote holistic community health and enhance access to quality medical care in rural Odisha.
