Vedanta Sesa Goa’s Bicholim Mine Sets Benchmarks in Sustainable Mining Occupational Safety Health

Goa, July 2025: Vedanta Sesa Goa’s Iron Ore Goa (IOG) – Bicholim Mine has achieved a landmark dual recognition, furthering its position as a benchmark in sustainable and responsible mining practices.
At the prestigious 13th Mines Environment & Mineral Conservation (MEMC) Week 2024–25 Awards Ceremony, held in Belgaum under the aegis of the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), the Bicholim Mine emerged as a standout performer in the Group-A category. The site secured the prestigious ‘Second Prize’ for ‘Overall Performance in Fully Mechanized Iron Ore Mines’. This achievement was on account of the onboarding of latest technology in mining operations at the Bicholim mines. The EV wheel loaders, new gen vehicles and the Slope Safety Radar have contributed to the Company’s aims of conducting safe & reliable as well as sustainable operations,
This achievement is particularly significant as Vedanta’s Bicholim Mine has demonstrated exceptional operational and environmental performance within just 14 months of being revived as Goa’s first auctioned and operational iron ore mine.

The other awards won during the ceremony include First Prize in Environment Monitoring & Sustainable Development, First Prize in Publicity, Propaganda & Swachh Bharat Abhiyan & Second Prize in Waste Dump Management & Scientific Development.

Further reinforcing its commitment to Occupational Safety & Health, Vedanta Sesa Goa’s Bicholim Mine was declared a ‘TB-Free Worksite’ under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP), in collaboration with the Association of Occupational Health, Goa, and supported by the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS).
