Vedanta Sesa Goa Fosters a Sense of Community Wellbeing through ‘Mayem Marathon 3.0’

As part of its commitment to youth empowerment and community development under the ‘YouTheChange, YouThePower’ initiative, Vedanta Iron Ore Goa (IOG) proudly partnered the Shri Mahamaya High School ex Students Association for the 3rd edition of the ‘Mayem Marathon’. This event served as a platform to bring together community members & fitness enthusiasts of the Bicholim Taluka, Goa, while spreading awareness on environment and sustainability camaraderie and environmental stewardship under the theme ‘Run for Nature, Preserve the Future.’

The ‘Mayem Marathon’ is now becoming a regular feature of the marathon schedule for Goa, with this year’s registrations topping 1500, highest till date for the event. The participants competed in various segments including 21kms, 10 kms, 5 kms, and 3 kms, along with separate categories for school students across age groups.

In a first, a dedicated segment was also incorporated to accommodate specially abled fitness enthusiasts, underscoring the importance of inclusivity and resilience in sports.Distinguished para-athlete and ‘Iron Lady’ Sakshi Kale, bagged the first position in the 5 kms general category. Her exemplary determination and performance served as a source of inspiration for all attendees. Overall, 20+ specially-abled athletes participated in the event.

The event witnessed keen competition in various segments with Mr Siddesh Barje and Mr Nandesh Gaonkar finish first as well as runner up in the 21km category. The 10km category saw Mr Hari Valip and Ms Ayan Soares emerging victorious in the boys and girls categories respectively. Mr Parshuram Ghade won in the 5km category. Over 45 segment saw Mr Sanjay Kelkar, Mr Suresh Murgaonkar & Ms Draksshayni Murgod winning in the 21km, 10km categories respectively.

The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Shri Premendra Shet, Hon’ble Member of the Legislative Assembly for Mayem Constituency; Shri Dhirajkumar Jagdish, Dy. CEO, Vedanta IOG,Shri Krishna Chodankar, Sarpanch, Village Panchayat, Mayem Vainginim; and Shri Vishant Pednekar, Panch Member, Village Panchayat, Mayem Vainginim, along with other senior executives from Vedanta Sesa Goa.

Expressing his sentiments on the occasion, Shri Premendra Shet, Hon’ble MLA, Mayem Constituency “Events like the ‘Mayem Marathon 3.0’  play a vital role in promoting fitness, inclusivity, and community spirit. It is inspiring to see such enthusiastic participation across all age groups. I commend Vedanta Iron Ore Goa and the Shri Mahamaya High-School ExStudents Association for their efforts in fostering a culture of health and well-being. Such initiatives strengthen our communities and encourage a more active and empowered society.”

Vedanta Sesa Goa has been regularly supporting youth oriented events as part of it ‘YouTheChange, YouThePower’ initiative which included the Vedanta Ultimate Badminton League, Goa Yuva Mahotsav and the ‘Republic Run’.Its flagship CSR initiatives Sesa Football Academy and the Sesa Technical School have been nurturing the dreams of the youth for over 25 years with 11 players having represented India in football and over 2000 youth having gained employment through skilling at the STS.
