VISL – IOK Partners for PM TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan
Chitradurga, Karnataka: Aligned with the Government’s vision of eradicating Tuberculosis (TB) and enhancing awareness on the prevention methods of TB, Vedanta Iron and Steel Limited – Iron Ore Karnataka (VISL – IOK) under the aegis of the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) conducted a series of initiatives under the ‘Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (PMTBMBA)’ at the premises.
As a part of the campaign, IOK in collaboration with the District Health Administration organised the Ayushman Arogya Shivir (TB screening camp) at the premises. The event was graced by Dr. Sudha CO, District TB Nodal Officer as the Chief Guest, along Dr. Kavya, Medical Officer, Bheemasamudra, other medical officials, Vedanta senior management, employees and business partners.
As per the WHO Global TB Report 2025, India accounts for 25% of the global TB burden, which is the highest share of any country in the world. As per the 2024 data, India contributes roughly 2.68 million incident TB cases annually, which is a major contributor to the global total. The prevalence of TB in the country has necessitated the launch of the PMTBMBA, which envisages a significant role for the private sector in achieving India’s goals for the eradication of TB.
As a part of the PM TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, Mr. Shrishaila Gouda, CEO, VISL-Iron Ore Karnataka (IOK) said, “The PM TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan has positively impacted 1,000+ people including our workforce and the surrounding communities, through focused awareness sessions to employees, business partners, TB screening camps, Ni-Kshay Shapath. Aligning with the PMTBMBA furthers IOK’s contribution to Karnataka and to the nation, and the initiative reinforces our collective commitment towards a TB-free India.”
Dr. Sudha CO, District TB Nodal Officer said, “We conducted a TB screening and awareness session at VISL – Iron Ore Karnataka (IOK). The initiative is a part of our continued efforts under the National TB Elimination Programme, aimed towards achieving a TB Mukt Bharat and also to encourage Nishay Mitra (adoption of TB cases and households) in the community. I thank all the participants and stakeholders for their active involvement and support in this important public health initiative.”

Under the PMTBMBA, the workforce took the Ni-Kshay Shapath followed by an engaging session by Dr. Kullayamma, MBBS, AFIH, OHC Doctor on the signs and symptoms of TB, precautionary measures, importance of taking TB medicines regularly and various other associated aspects. The participants included employees and business partners and awareness was spread through the display of informative material on TB symptoms, prevention, cure, across the mining site.
In FY26, VISL-IOK has previously contributed to the PMTBMBA through provisioning of nutritional kit support to individuals requiring the necessary assistance. The Company , as part of its overall CSR effort, partners communities in fostering holistic progress in the field of education, IT learning, sustainable agriculture and livelihoods as also vocational training and skilling for women and the youth.
