Vedanta Iron And Steel Sustains 4% Growth in Saleable Steel Production in H1 FY27
- Growth across Odisha and Goa, alongside sustained steel production, reinforces VISL’s integrated iron and steel platform
Panjim, October 3, 2026: Vedanta Iron And Steel Limited (VISL), an integrated iron ore mining, processing and steel manufacturing platform with operations across India & Africa, reported sustained year-on-year growth in steel production for the first half of FY27, with saleable steel production increasing 4% to 1.114 million tonnes (MT). Hot metal production also rose 3% to 1.153 MT during H1 FY27, reflecting continued production momentum across its steelmaking operations.
During Q2 FY27, saleable steel production stood at 532 KT, up 4% YoY, while hot metal production increased 3% to 552 KT. Production was lower sequentially compared with Q1 FY27, primarily due to scheduled furnace maintenance. Despite this moderation, the company-maintained YoY growth across its principal steel production metrics.
Sustained Steel Production Growth
VISL’s H1 performance reflects continued production momentum, with both hot metal and saleable steel output recording YoY growth. During Q2 FY27, TMT bar production increased 12% YoY to 112 K, overall for H1 FY27, TMT bar production grew 4% to 244 KT. DI pipes production increased to 22 KT during Q2, taking H1 production to 52 KT, up 8% YoY. Pig iron production stood at 568 KT for H1 FY27, registering growth of 4%.
Iron Ore: Growth Across Odisha and Goa
VISL’s iron ore operations recorded encouraging growth across Odisha and Goa during Q2 FY27. Saleable ore production from Odisha increased 34% YoY to 0.91 MT, taking H1 production to 2.08 MT, up 46% over the corresponding period last year. At the company’s Goa mines, saleable ore production increased 22% YoY to 0.10 MT in Q2 FY27, supported by the ramp-up of mining operations and enhanced processing capacity. Overall, VISL produced 1.52 MT of saleable iron ore during Q2 FY27, taking H1 production to 4.16 MT. While total H1 output was 3% lower YoY, the growth recorded in Odisha and Goa demonstrates positive production momentum across two operating regions, partly offsetting lower volumes from Karnataka. The performance reflects
VISL’s Karnataka operations continued to align production with the updated mine plan, with Q2 FY27 saleable ore output of 0.51 MT in line with revised estimates. Production for H1 FY27 stood at 1.36 MT.
VISL brings together iron ore resources and steelmaking capabilities across Goa, Karnataka, Odisha and Bokaro, alongside Western Cluster Limited in Liberia. Its integrated platform provides a foundation for developing resource-backed production capabilities and supporting the evolving requirements of India’s infrastructure and industrial sectors. With H1 FY27 saleable steel production up 4% and hot metal production up 3% year-on-year, VISL continues to focus on operational efficiency, production stability and the development of its integrated iron and steel platform.
