Employee Volunteerism Fuels Positive Change at Vedanta Iron Ore Odisha

Vedanta Iron Ore Odisha successfully concluded its second Employee Volunteerism Week (EVW) 2024–25, building on the success of the first edition held in July 2024. This spirited initiative, part of the ‘Sesa Employee Volunteering Activity (SEVA)’ program, reflects the company’s enduring commitment to deepening connections and fostering positive change within its host communities.

Throughout the week, Vedanta employees participated in a series of initiatives that reached over 250 community members. Teams were specially formed to enhance the impact and effectiveness of the outreach, with employees dedicating time and effort to community-centric activities focused on education, empowerment, and recreation.

Highlights of the week included a career guidance and counseling session at ITI Koida, led by Mr. Anupam Onkar, CHRO of Vedanta Iron Ore Odisha. Through this session, students were empowered with insights into placement opportunities, career pathways, and industry expectations. Employees from various departments — including Electrical, Mechanical, and Commercial— also interacted with the students, sharing domain-specific knowledge and opportunities. The discussion emphasized how Vedanta IOO could support aspiring youth through internship programs, providing them valuable exposure to real-world work environments.

In addition, financial management and marketing essentials workshops were conducted for local Self-Help Groups (SHGs), helping to strengthen their entrepreneurial capabilities. Creative art and craft sessions for school students in Gram Panchayat Guali sparked imagination and encouraged learning. The week concluded with an exciting volleyball match with the youth of Nadidihi village, fostering sportsmanship and community camaraderie.

Mr. Ajit Patra, CEO – Vedanta Iron Ore Odisha, expressed pride in the initiative’s impact, stating,
“At Vedanta, we believe in ‘giving back’ to the communities and meaningful engagement with communities is key to sustainable growth. Employee Volunteerism Week reflects the spirit of partnership we aspire to build — one where our people work hand-in-hand with the community to create positive change. I am proud of the enthusiasm and dedication shown by our teams, and we remain committed to strengthening these bonds for a brighter, shared future.”

Mr. Ramesh Chandra Mohanty, Headmaster of Nilachil High School, Guali, shared his appreciation for the initiative, stating, “We are truly grateful to Vedanta Sesa Iron Ore Odisha for their efforts in engaging with our students. Initiatives like creative sessions not only inspire young minds but also open up new avenues for their future growth. Such interactions build confidence and provide much-needed guidance to our students, helping them dream bigger and aim higher. We look forward to continuing this enriching partnership with Vedanta for the benefit of our community’s youth.”

Vedanta Iron Ore Odisha remains steadfast in its commitment to partnering with communities to drive holistic progress. Through sustained employee engagement and meaningful initiatives, the company continues to create a positive, lasting impact in the regions it operates in.
