Vedanta IOK Celebrates Mines Safety Observance Week

Chitradurga, Karnataka: Marking Mines Safety Observance Week, Vedanta Sesa Goa – Iron Ore Karnataka (IOK) ,as part of its Safety is Us initiative flagged off the Mines Safety Week with the inspection at the Vedanta IOK premises and within the mines. The Mines Safety Observance Week is an initiative organised by the Mines Safety Association Karnataka (MSAK), Zone-3, under the aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS). The safety week inspection was led by Smt. Sarita Dange, Karnataka State Minerals Corporation Limited (KSMCL), Smt. Vijayalaxmi, KSMCL, Ms. Pratyusha Bhattacharjee, M/s. JSW Steel & Mr. Nijagunaiah, Group Vocational Training Centre (GVTC).
Mines Safety Week 2025, with its theme ‘Revolutionizing Safety and Health: The Role of AI & Digitalization’, commenced at Vedanta IOK with the Mines safety week flag hoisting, safety pledge, and lighting of the ceremonial lamp. It was followed by a detailed overview of all the functions at Vedanta IOK, with the inspection team reviewing various operational and safety related aspects. Vedanta IOK , as part of its Safety is Us campaign has leveraged tech absorption by onboarding the Slope Safety Radar and harnesses digitisation & automation through the implementation of the Critical Risk Framework, adopting a predictive approach to safety.
Smt. Sarita Dange, KSMCL also addressed the audience at the Mines safety observance week, by stating, “We are committed to ensuring that every member of our workforce returns home safe. The Mines Safety Observance Week, organized by the Mines Safety Association Karnataka (MSAK) – Zone-3 under the aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), serves as a powerful reminder that safety is not just a priority—it is a responsibility we all share.”
Addressing the employees and business partners, Shrishaila Gouda, CEO, Vedanta – Iron Ore Karnataka said, “The Mines Safety Observance Week serves as a reminder that safety in operations is our topmost priority, and the safety week reinforces our commitment to fostering a safe workplace. Through the observance of the Mines safety week, we are committed to adhering to the best-in-class standards of safety across the mines.”
Around 500+ employees and business partners gathered for the Mines Safety Week commemoration at the Vedanta IOK premises.
