Vedanta IOO Promotes Safety Excellence during 43rd Annual Mines Safety Week Inspection 2025

Vedanta Sesa Goa – Iron Ore Odisha (IOO) commemorated the 43rd Annual Mines Safety Week (AMSW) with a series of activities aimed at promoting workplace safety. The activities, undertaken as part of its ‘Safety is Us’ campaign were organized under the aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) and the Mines Safety Association of Odisha. The aim of the week long event is to benchmark, review and strengthen safety practices across mining operations of Region-1 & Region-2 mines of Odisha state.
The celebrations at IOO, themed on “Vikasit Bharat, Vikasit Khadan”, spanned across its two key opencast iron ore mines – Nadidihi Iron Ore Mine and Nadidihi Iron & Manganese Ore Mine, where distinguished guests and inspection teams conducted detailed safety reviews.
At Nadidihi Iron Ore Mine, the inspection was led by Mr. H Patnaik-Mining (Convener, Patabeda Iron Ore Mines of M/s MGM) and Mr. Ranjit Kumar-Mining (Co-Convener, Sanindpur Iron & Bauxite Mine of M/s Rungta), accompanied by Mr. Ajay Kumar YadavMechanical (Lanjiberna Limestone & Dolomite Mine of M/s Dalmia Cement Bharat Ltd. M/s JSW).
At Nadidihi Iron & Manganese Ore Mine, the team was headed by Mr. Mahendra Kumar Mohanty – Mining (Convener, Patabeda Iron Ore Mine of M/s MG Mohanty) and Mr. Sanjay Pradhan-Mining (Co-Convener, Khatkurbahal Limestone & Dolomite Mine of M/s Shiva Cement), with Mr. Bansidhar Parida-Mechanical (Raikela Iron Ore Mine of M/s Geetarani Mohanty) and Mr. Santanu Mahanta-Electrical (Joda East Iron Mine of M/s Tata Steel Ltd.) as members.
The event commenced with a welcome & the lamp-lighting ceremony, safety pledge & flag hoisting, cultural events & inspections. The inspection teams reviewed operational areas, safety protocols, and best practices implemented across the mines.

Mr. Mahendra Kumar Mohanty, Convener – Nadidihi Iron & Manganese Ore Mine Inspection Team, shared: “ At Vedanta IOO we witnessed how proactive approach leads to fostering a safety culture where every stakeholder ,from leadership to frontline workers, takes ownership of creating a secure work environment. In this the role of the workforce, in particular business partners are a critical cog in identifying potential hazards and ensuring mitigation measures are implemented to achieve 100% safety for both personnel and machinery”.
