Vedanta Iron Ore Odisha Builds Community Bonds through Volunteerism

Vedanta Iron Ore Odisha (IOO) successfully concluded its Employee Volunteerism Week (EVW). The initiative, part of Sesa Employee Volunteering Activity (SEVA) reinforces the company’s enduring commitment to strengthening community partnerships and fostering positive change across its host regions.

The initiative connected Vedanta employees with community members across Nadidhi, Rengalbeda, Koida, Guali, and Joda villages in the Sundergarh and Kendujhar districts of Odisha. Focused on youth empowerment, wellness, and environmental awareness, EVW is an initiative that Vedanta IOO regularly organises as part of its community engagement efforts.

Throughout the week, employees participated in a series of meaningful initiatives that reached over 330 community members. Specially formed employee teams enhanced the reach and effectiveness of the outreach, dedicating their time and efforts to community‑centric activities centred on education, empowerment, and recreation.

Reflecting on the initiative, Mr. Biswanath Sahoo, Chief Operating Officer Vedanta IOO, shared:  “At Vedanta, we believe that ‘giving back’ is fundamental to sustainable growth. Employee Volunteerism Week embodies the spirit of partnership we strive for. One where our people work alongside the community to drive meaningful change. I am incredibly proud of our teams’ dedication and remain committed to fostering these bonds for a prosperous, shared future.”

Key highlights of the week included an awareness session on menstrual hygiene for adolescent girls at the Guali Residential School. Vedanta IOO employees came forward for this noble cause and collectively distributed sanitary napkins to the students. In addition, a self‑defence training program was conducted for the students of ITI Koida, aimed at promoting personal safety, awareness, and confidence among youth. Workshops on financial management and marketing essentials were also organised for local Self‑Help Groups (SHGs), helping to strengthen their entrepreneurial and livelihood capabilities.

Sharing her experience, Ms. Padmini Baliarsingh, Principal, ITI Koida, said: “The Self‑Defense Training Session organised by Vedanta IOO at our institute was extremely insightful and effective. The training emphasized awareness, confidence‑building, and personal safety, which are crucial in today’s environment. The initiative by Vedanta IOO is well appreciated for its commitment to community development & student empowerment.”

Vedanta Iron Ore Odisha remains steadfast in its commitment to partnering with communities to drive holistic progress. Through sustained employee engagement and impactful initiatives, the company continues to create a positive and lasting impact in the regions where it operates.
