At VISL, the principle of “Zero Harm, Zero Waste, Zero Discharge” anchors our operational philosophy. In line with this, we have installed 11 advanced Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) across our sites, providing a cumulative treatment capacity of 762.5 KLD. This includes 575 KLD at ESL Steel Ltd, along with 97.5 KLD in Goa, 60 KLD in Odisha, and 30 KLD in Karnataka.

These facilities enable efficient treatment and recycling of wastewater generated from offices, canteens, administrative blocks, worker colonies, and other non‑process areas. Treated water is reused within premises for process applications, cooling, gardening, horticulture, and dust suppression, which ensures optimal utilization and a significant reduction in freshwater dependency.

All STPs are designed and operated in full compliance with statutory requirements under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, as well as Consent to Operate (CTO) and Environmental Clearance (EC) conditions. Advanced technologies such as MBBR and ozonation systems are deployed, with several units achieving up to 100% recycling of treated water for non‑potable and process use.

Performance is monitored monthly through NABL and MoEF&CC‑ accredited laboratories, ensuring consistent quality and regulatory adherence. This integrated approach strengthens VISL’s ESG objectives, promotes water positivity, and underscores our long‑term commitment to sustainable resource management and reduced environmental footprint.
