As part of its commitment to sustainable steel production, VISL’s ESL Steel Limited has partnered with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) to integrate Piped Natural Gas (PNG) into its operations, replacing LPG in key furnace applications.

Under a three-year agreement securing 7,260 SCMD of PNG supply, the project marks a significant step towards cleaner, safer, and more efficient manufacturing. The transition is expected to reduce ESL’s carbon footprint by approximately 1,500 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent annually, representing a 20% reduction in emissions from the affected operations.

In addition to lowering emissions, PNG delivers improved combustion efficiency, consistent heat generation, and enhanced operational reliability through a continuous piped supply. The shift also contributes to safer plant operations, while reducing logistical and storage requirements associated with conventional fuels.

Beyond its immediate environmental benefits, the project, expected to be operational in FY27, lays the foundation for future adoption of lower-carbon energy solutions, including hydrogen blending opportunities. By integrating cleaner energy into core manufacturing processes, VISL continues to advance its sustainability agenda while strengthening operational excellence and supporting the transition towards low-carbon steelmaking.
