At VISL, we hold firmly the view that enterprise must be guided by a higher calling, one that enriches lives and empowers communities. Sustainable operations & a sense of responsibility towards the planet is the foundation upon which our operations are built. Our initiatives are premised on the pillars of Transforming Communities, Transforming Planet & Transforming the Workplace.

VISL’s ESG vision is anchored in Vedanta’s philosophy of “Zero Harm, Zero Waste, and Zero Discharge”, and guided by the three pillars of Transforming Communities, Transforming the Planet, and Transforming the Workplace. This vision reflects our commitment to safe and responsible operations, resource efficiency, and environmental stewardship, while creating long‑term value for communities and stakeholders. Across our operations, we prioritise employee and community well‑being, promote circularity and waste reduction, and adopt robust pollution‑prevention and compliance practices.

Our approach to sustainability is rooted in integrating responsible practices across the value chain, spanning safety, environmental management, community development, and ethical governance. Through continuous improvement, innovation, and adoption of best practices, we work towards improving energy efficiency, optimising resource use, and strengthening environmental performance, contributing to a more responsible and resilient steel and mining ecosystem.

VISL follows the Vedanta Sustainability Framework (VSF), which embeds ESG principles into governance and decision‑making across businesses. The VSF is aligned with internationally recognised standards and guidelines, including those of the ICMM, IFC, and UN Sustainable Development Goals, and focuses on four core areas: Governance, Environment, Health & Safety, and Social Performance. Under this framework, leadership oversight, defined ESG goals, compliance mechanisms, and periodic reviews help drive accountability, transparency, and continual improvement.

Operational units are guided to maintain strong management systems and certifications—such as ISO 14001 for environmental management and ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety—and to regularly monitor and report performance. Together, these measures ensure that ESG considerations are embedded into day‑to‑day operations, risk management, and long‑term strategy, supporting sustainable growth while maintaining high standards of governance and stakeholder responsibility.
